Breed standard of the Continental Bulldog

The Continental Bulldog is a dog breed originating in Switzerland. This new Bulldog breed is currently recognized by the FCI as a breed in progress towards official recognition.

Country: Switzerland
Application: Family dog
FCI: Breed group 2, Pinchers, Schnauzers, Molossers & Mountain Dogs.

Appearance

The Continental Bulldog is a short-haired, medium-sized, athletically built dog. Despite its sturdy build, it is agile and persistent. It can breathe well, calmly, and silently when trotting or galloping at speed. It weighs between 20 and 30 kilograms. Males and females have a clear difference in build.

According to the breed standard, the Continental Bulldog has:

Height at withers:
  • Male: 42 to 46 cm
  • Female: 40 to 44 cm
Tolerated up to 4 cm above and 2 cm below.

Weight:
  • Male: 25 to 30 kg
  • Female: 22 to 27 kg

The head is less massive than that of an English Bulldog, with fewer wrinkles and a distinct stop. The undershot bite is not as pronounced as in an English Bulldog. The neck is short and powerful. It has a powerful gait, with the front legs straighter and closer together than in an English Bulldog. The coat is smooth and short, with or without an undercoat.
